Exercising In Our New Home

August 29, 2009

Despite all my years I still feel like a little boy within. I have a difficult time looking in the mirror and seeing a real adult. You might have thought the delivery of my 2nd child might have altered it, but I still appear to be in denial of the aging process.

And regarding aging — or rather putting it off — my dear wife and I recently moved into a new house and this house possesses room in the basement for the home gym my dear wfe had always wanted. I’m seeing dollar signs when I think about all the big and small items required, from the necessary but often forgotten benches for weight-lifting and mats for exercise to selecting the most versatile stationary bike.

Stationary bikes can be tricky these days. Do I go recumbent or upright bicycle? Should I go with a digital or analog?

Of course, my dear wife appears set on getting an elliptical machine as well. Yes you understood that accurately. A stationary bike and an elliptical machine — not only one or the other. My estimate is that the extra exercise equipment will go with the cream for stretch marks she started utilizing after she bore our youngest child. Wow I’ll get it for that joke.

I have to be particular with our budget because our new house is a bit more of a diamond in the rough. We desired it to be this way, but we still have to cautiously budget everything, even the cabinet knob (no joke). My dear wife has a pretty ambitious cabinet refacing design plotted, but I have to remind her the sink for the bathroom she wants put in shall set us back a fair amount, too.

Gratefully, we both enjoy the rustic, natural look, so we’re furnishing our new home with furniture which is unfinished. It still involves a little polishing off, but we can keep our costs down and make higher quality furniture than we might purchase in any store.

I recently uncovered a great with some nice, raw knotting and a couple console tables in matching cedar. For our patio outside we’re researching outdoor fireplaces and we will furnish with some budget furniture made with wicker initially.

Supplying a new home may seem so adult, but I can’t help but feel like I am merely playing house. The new furniture and exercise equipment just feel as a new generation of toys.
