No Child Left Behind Makes The Failing Grade!
January 20, 2010
During 2002, the Federal government, through Act of Congress, enacted their controversial No Child Left Behind Act(NCLB) . This approach was planned to boost the primary and secondary school student’s understanding, primarily in the fields of English along with math. Despite the fact that this is an admirable objective, the build of the plan has failed to bring the sought after outcome. Many educators have laid the fault on the method laid out within the No Child Left Behind program. With its target squarely on English and math, pupils, teachers and administrators are up against a task that imposes punishments if the goals are not achieved.
Such punishments use the form of rescinded Federal financing, which makes a catch- 22 type of condition. Even the funding which is appropriated has not been obtained by the towns. This is normal practice since the inception of No Child Left Behind. In 2002, nearly$ 4. 2 billion bucks which was appropriated never arrived at the states. In 2007, this funding gap grew to an astonishing$ 14 billion dollars! To add to the monetary woes of the school districts, states all over the united states were suffering funding shortfalls in revenues, due to the state of the general financial system.
This key fact resulted in several states determining it necessary to generate budget cuts in several sections, which includes, you guessed it, schooling! While schools are demanded to administer normal tests in English and math, the tests protocol of No Child Left Behind does not stretch to other subjects. Some schools were forced to drop other subjects from their curriculums if they were to maintain the Federal money. This doesn’t seem like a healthy overhaul of our academic system.
